What is a backup ?

A copy otherwise known as a backup is archiving your current site as a zip package on the server or with the ability to download it to disk. It is a different way of downloading the current version of the site from the server i.e.: all its content (database), content files, template files and the whole wordpress. Backup is an effective time saver in case a hacker attacks the site or mistakes and deletes files.

Why do I need a backup (backup) for Wordpress ?

The main task of backing up your site is security. In case of, for example, deletion of a file from the server, deletion of entries, pages or content from the wordpress cockpit, you can restore the site to the previous version using the backup.

Important. Backup should be done before any wordpress work. Among the frequent works before which it is worth doing a backup is wordpress optimization.

What are the options for Wordpress backup?

First of all, we distinguish between 3 types of backup created. Automatic backup, which is divided into server-based and performed from the Wordpress cockpit, and manual backup, which is the manual copying of the necessary files locally to disk.

Manual site backup

This type of backup is used by developers and users familiar with phpMyAdmin and familiar with the wordpress environment. This allows them to copy the necessary files periodically without installing additional tools. This way they don't have to download the entire contents of the server each time, but only those things that have changed.

Automatic site backup

In this case, we can use dedicated plugins for wordpress e.g.: UpDraftPlus, which will do all the work of making copies and packing files on their own. It is noteworthy that when creating a backup through plugins, you can define the scope of the created archive, for example: we can pack only the site files, the template itself, the content from the database

Server backup

It often happens that we need an older version of the site, e.g. from a month ago when we did not yet remember to create backups. It is worth to turn to the hosting administrator, because very often the company has copies of pages up to 3-4 weeks back.

To install the plug-in, just from the menu on the left side of 'plug-ins' click and after clicking on the button add new type updraftplus in the search engine. From the available list, select and install the plugin.

How often should backups be made?

It is important to make periodic backups ie: depending on the degree of expansion of the site over time. This way, in case of problems on the site, its infected or deleted, we have in the current version to the restoration site.

Create a site backup at least once a month

It is a good idea to make a backup at least once a month if nothing special happens on the site i.e.: we do not blog and this is not the time when we work intensively on the site.
